more fixed...

off road. this took place at west creek reservation; a place that myself and a few friends have been riding since we really started riding, over fifteen years. and friends of the family have known about it, and have walked the trails before that.

it's a great little park in parma; where the metroparks have been invading. i state invading, because they put a hard packed limestone trail there; it's not like it was, but there is more. i'll take the more over memories in this case.

caught a couple of deer. didn't move, or be bothered by me, until i hike between them. then they took off.

this one, i cleared. i was surprised, the pedals didn't even hit the log. clear. right over. nice.

a lot of ups and downs and looping around.

next time i'll take the singlespeed, and kick it some more.

side note...had a friday night downtown ride on the steamroller. had some really good track stands. i had a good one going at a stop light, and then i heard 'nine inch dick...' out of someone's car and i lost it. oh well...i'll have to grab the camera next time.

until next time...go to hell.

not enough steam...

day with the family at the beach, and i decided to go on a ride. my new rule...always have a bike with you. i took the i.f., and my wife took her bike. she didn't do a ride. but i got out. the walk way at the beach was lacking, but there were some wet lands near by, so i took a spin up the road. and i found zimmerman trail; which is part of the buckeye trail. i thought that it was going to be a paved trail, but was i wrong. single track. nice. fixed. even nicer.

this was the first time i really road single track on the fixed. it was such a good time.

looking at the map on the link, i went from one to about two. for it was getting late, and i didn't want to be too late. plus i didn't have a brain bucket, so i was taking it easy.

on the fixed, the trail seemed to flow so much better than if i was on any other bike. i followed the rhythm of the trail. how it flowed, and moved was the same way i moved. with the c-cross tires i was able to put the bike where ever i wanted. missing steps and roots. the rear was a little jumpy, but it really didn't bother me. i was able to roll over many roots, and still glide over bridges.

just before the turn around i noticed my rear tire 'squishing' into the turns. flat. oh, well. new tube. i'm good.

the front brake helped a lot. i was able to keep my flow, but yet stay stable on some down hills.

i chased a few deer through the woods. and had a great time.

things like this really change one's persepctive on riding. to the point...i'm going to do more fixed off road.

i'm even playing with the idea of a fixed mtn bike...we'll see...

in the words of john safran...until next time...go to hell.

over the...

weekend, my wife and i took a trip to erie pa for some time away. we took the bikes and road around lake erie. they have a wonderful park on their lake front. image that? a city that utilizes their water front. anyway...we took a nice trip around the lake. took a break...

at the oliver hazard perry monument...

where perry won the battle of lake erie during the war of eighteen twelve to gain control of lake erie over the british. nice. thanks perry. mighty nice of you.

anyway...we also took in some beach...

it is also good to note that i got the trek up and running as a flat bar road bike. it was damn hard getting the right front derailleur for that bike. this flat bar road bike thing i guess is new to the bike world. but the important this is, is that my wife loves it, and she will be out more with me riding. nice. mucho nice.
